Subject: Concerns about Centurion Way
We would like to draw your attention to the risks to Centurion Way, a walking and cycling path to the west of Chichester.
The route is under threat of being diverted to accommodate a new road and also allow Bishop Luffa School to have new playing fields to the west of the path. The new road does indeed take away a small part of the school’s playing fields. But there is also the risk that the school loses some of their current playing fields due to the ending of a lease on the Oliver Whitby fields. This then necessitates their use of the new fields. The school does not wish to operate out of a split site with a public path going through their land. Child protection issues have meant that the school is proposing with the support of the developers a new detour round the 3 sides of the playing fields. The original path will then be stopped up. We do not know what will become of the current section of the path that is then stopped up but does in its current form offer a wildlife corridor and a lovely rural start to the Centurion Way.
If you would like to find out more please do attend our Public Exhibition to be organised on January 27th where we will be inviting Councillors and the public to find out more about the risks to Centurion Way. The Exhibition is taking place in the Sherborne Road Scout Hut in Chichester from 11 am to 3 pm.
