Health and Safety

As we don’t have any insurance we would like people to walk with the same responsibility they take for themselves when going for a walk in the countryside. Please download and read our disclaimer.pdf and if you wish, sign it and bring it along on any walk you would like to join.

We do have regular walkers who have been in the group for many years and are happy for them to arrange walks as we know them very well. For new members with a free email address, maybe a mobile phone number, who none of us know, it would help us if you used the donation button and we can confirm you will be able to join our much smaller list of trusted walkers at least, if we are once again limited in numbers, and our leaders are happy to take on a walk.

Safety in Numbers

If you wish to join us on a walk YOU MUST LET US KNOW IN ADVANCE and not just turn up on the day. This is a new rule we’ve had to introduce, because much as we are delighted with the success for this group, numbers have exceeded 40 on the last two walks (March 22nd and April 6th 2026), which not only makes parking difficult, but can be overwhelming for walk leaders, especially on roads.

Details of each walk include contact numbers and emails for those who are leading it, so please be courteous and let them know at least two days before the walk date if you would like to come. Lately, we’ve had people emailing on the day of the walk, or just turning up without telling anyone.

We would like to encourage our members to lead at least one walk, to spread the load. So, ask yourself: “If I was leading a walk, how would I feel if 20 people said they were coming and then 30 turned up?”

Pubs will also struggle to accommodate more people on Sundays, which is often their busiest day. We usually get away with booking a table for 12 – but any more, they start asking for deposits and/or pre-orders, so we try to avoid that if we can. Now the weather if improving, we have the option of tables outside as well as picnics. We encourage lift sharing too, where possible to cut down on the number of vehicles, but even on a country lane a large number of cars poses a risk.
