Climping Beach
Heather has offered this lovely coastal walk a few times over the years.
Pictures are from 2009 and 2011 when the waves were a little choppy. The more recent photos were taken in 2017 and 2019, on calmer days.
The walk starts from the car park, following the grassy ridge at the top of the beach. Veering away from the beach, we meet a footpath which eventually runs along the edge of Littlehampton Golf Club. This path is well used and often muddy in places, especially after a spate of rainfall, so strong waterproof footwear is advised.
The path brings us into Littlehampton where you can savour the fine views from the bridge of the harbour and the town.
Returning to the beach, via wooden steps and through sand dunes, we carry on along the water’s edge and back to the start. We have been fortunate enough to do this walk when the sea has been at low tide, allowing us plenty of fresh sea air and a gentle, flat surface over an expanse of golden sand.
In the past we have enjoyed lunch at the Black Horse in Climping which serves very good meals but in the aftermath of the pandemic, this closed down sadly. The last time we did this walk in 2019, we drove to the Oyster Catcher pub on the A259 which had a large and varied menu.
Winter or Summer, this is a very pleasant walk.
