Hooksway

Chichester Walkers have led some beautiful walks around Hooksway and the last took place in December 2022

Most are familiar with this walk from the Royal Oak, both for the variety of walking paths available and the excellent scenery. The warm welcome and good ‘pub grub’ the group enjoy afterwards is something to be savoured. We enjoy a mix of woodland paths, wide open vistas, tree lined tracks and superb views across the beautiful South Downs.

There are usually some inclines, but nothing overly challenging for the average walker in our group. The paths are good and firm with little or no mud, which is a bonus!

Mostly we traverse the undulating countryside and as we approach the last leg, one can spot the spire of Chichester Cathedral in the far distance, nestled in a cleft between two low hills.

And talking of Cathedrals, the final stage of this walk takes us along an attractive ‘processional’ greenway through open woods, leading down to the Royal Oak Pub, where a well-earned drink and hot food awaits you.

Not all walks are the same, though, and whilst our group have enjoyed many variations of these hikes over the years, the photos in this blog show images of the area in all seasons.
