Bosham

Our Bosham walk usually starts at the Anchor Bleu Pub PO18 8LS and is 5.62 miles on flat terrain.

The last time Dev led this walk in its entirety was in 2018. We walked near the grounds of the Holy Trinity church, then along the sea front, into the fields. The fields always look good when they are filled with crops as they did at the time of publishing this post (June 2022).

Continuing the walk to another part of the coastline, there is a lovely view of Chichester Cathedral across the water. From here we venture out through some reed beds, to an attractive duck pond in Fishbourne.

Then turning back towards Bosham, we continue along the A259 for a while, before getting back into the countryside, across fields again and then retracing our path along the sea front, to the Anchor Bleu. 

Dev writes: “Bosham has always fascinated me due to its history. I believe Harold Godwinson sailed from there to pIedge allegiance to William of Normandy. He later reneged and the battle of Hastings followed. William became William the Conqueror. However for more than one reason Harold probably called him ‘William the Bastard.'”

The best place to park is in the Pay and Display car park near the pub. There are free places to park around the village, but do so at your peril. Dev strongly advises against parking in any areas affected by the tides, since it has not been unknown for cars to become marooned in the middle of the water!

Other than that, Bosham is an idyllic place to walk around with flower-filled lanes, quaint cottages, the harbour and the Craft Centre with its many craft shops. Lunch at the Anchor Bleu pub afterwards is always a pleasure.
