Arundel Festival and Walk
Peter and Helen suggested this walk for the first time last year (2021), which coincided with Arundel Festival.
The day was so enjoyable, we decided to return for a second year. Starting from the car park in Mill Road, this walk starts on the flat, following the grassy banks of the Arun River, where one can drink in views of Arundel’s breath-taking ‘Motte and Bailey’ castle. Then, as we turn back towards Mill Road, a wooded path brings us to a stone bridge and to Swanbourne Lake. This is another beauty spot, with a boating lake, cafe, ice cream cabin and flocks of water-fowl! But we ventured higher into the hills, circumnavigating the lake to the top, then weaving our way into the valley. Some steep steps lead up to Hiorne Tower, before drawing us gently across wide fields and back into Arundel Town.

Arundel Festival of the Arts
Described as an “inclusive festival with spectacular community events,” the streets of Arundel Festival (now in its 44th year) were filled with live music and tempting street food, alongside colourful shops and pavement cafes.
You can also stroll the Gallery Trail, Theatre Trail, Words, Music & Wine, and soak up Arundel’s heritage in a huge range of venues around town. We enjoyed seeing some classic cars, whilst browsing, eating and drinking and some members of the group even indulged in a little dancing. A great event not to be missed, in addition to the walk.
